Upper East Side Pre-War Apartment Combination represents a long-standing relationship that evolved over time, beginning with the
design of the client’s commercial offices. That initial collaboration led to the renovation of their existing apartment, and ultimately to the
opportunity to purchase the neighboring residence and combine two pre-war apartments into one expansive, cohesive home. Spanning
several years, this project reflects a continued investment in thoughtful design and remains an ongoing relationship, with additional
work completed as the client’s needs evolve.
Through each phase, we developed a deep understanding of how the family wanted to live—capturing the charm of pre-war
architecture while introducing a modern sensibility grounded in both form and function. Their vision centered on creating a home that
felt connected, welcoming, and intuitively aligned with their daily life, while allowing flexibility for growth over time.
The design process focused on reimagining the layout through a central foyer that thoughtfully connects each extended area of the
home, establishing a natural and intuitive flow throughout. Each space was custom designed according to its function and desired
aesthetic, resulting in a layered and highly personalized environment. Custom millwork played a defining role, from a fully tailored
kitchen and bespoke closets to bedrooms paired with en-suite bathrooms that provide privacy and comfort. A custom-designed library
became a focal point of the home, thoughtfully integrated with a hidden office and a private gym—blending functionality with a sense of
discovery. Architectural details including moldings, doors, and flooring were carefully crafted to honor the integrity of the pre-war
structure while reflecting the client’s individual style.
The completed home feels expansive yet intimate, refined yet deeply livable. Each area carries its own identity while remaining
connected through a cohesive design language. Furnishings, lighting, window treatments, art, mirrors, and accessories bring warmth
and personality, enhancing both the architectural framework and the lived experience of the space. The result is a home where classic
character and modern living exist in harmony—designed to support the family’s lifestyle today while continuing to evolve with them over
