Sound Lounge, NYC

Gut Renovation | Commercial Interior Architecture & Design | Project Management Sound Lounge Recording Studios evolved over a series of projects developed over time, representing a dynamic and creative collaboration rooted in both design innovation and deep client understanding. The largest phase of work encompassed approximately 9,000 square feet of raw space, designed to launch the company’s secondary business, Sound Lounge Radio, while seamlessly connecting to their primary recording studio located on the floor above. The design process was highly collaborative, working closely with the project architect to transform the raw industrial space into a fully functional and inspiring environment. A custom-designed spiral staircase was introduced to physically and visually connect the two levels, reinforcing the relationship between the studio and radio platforms. The architectural language embraced the raw character of the building—restored concrete floors were left exposed, while Venetian plaster walls provided a refined backdrop for the company’s graphic identity. Custom-paneled soundproof ceilings were engineered to meet the technical demands of the space, ensuring optimal acoustic performance. The entry experience was designed to feel warm and inviting, incorporating antique furnishings sourced from Indonesia alongside a custom art wall created by a New York-based artist, establishing a strong and memorable first impression. Each recording environment was thoughtfully individualized. Engineer studios, ranging from approximately 1,500 to 2,000 square feet, were custom designed to reflect the personality and working style of each engineer. This approach created a unique experience for clients—allowing them to feel comfortable, inspired, and connected to the creative process within each space. A customized kitchen and lounge area was also integrated, offering a place for clients and engineers to relax, gather, and enjoy meals between sessions, reinforcing both hospitality and community within the studio environment. Following the expansion of Sound Lounge Radio, the original recording studio spaces continued to be refreshed and updated over time, ensuring consistency in quality, function, and aesthetic across the entire operation. This project not only resulted in a highly successful creative environment but also led to a lasting relationship, including the design of one of the owner’s personal residences in Tribeca. The completed spaces are immersive, expressive, and highly functional—designed to support creativity at the highest level while reflecting the individuality of those who work within them. An environment where design, sound, and experience come together to inspire creativity and connection.
