Gut Renovation | Residential/Commercial Interior Architecture & Design | Project Management
This project was a deeply personal and meaningful investment by the owner of B Moore Design, Inc., representing a full gut renovation
of a four-story building located on Antique Row in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn. Originally built in 1901, this was the first complete renovation
of the property, transforming it into a mixed-use space that would serve as both a professional design studio and a private residence.
The vision was to create a layered environment where work and life could coexist—allowing the showroom to become a true reflection
of the firm’s design philosophy while supporting a highly functional living space above.
The design process involved a comprehensive reimagining of the building’s structure and flow. The property was reconfigured to
include a retail showroom and design studio at street level, with three residential apartments above, including a custom-designed two-
story duplex residence for the owner. A newly constructed elevator was introduced, connecting the basement through to the top-floor
terraces, ensuring accessibility and continuity throughout. Each residence was thoughtfully planned with open circulation between
kitchen, dining, and living areas, extending outward to private terraces that offer city views. En-suite bathrooms were integrated into
each unit, along with in-unit washer and dryer systems, while custom architectural detailing—including contemporary interpretations of
the building’s original character—created a cohesive aesthetic throughout. The owner’s duplex residence was designed with highly
personalized details, reflecting both comfort and refinement.
The completed project stands as both a professional and personal milestone. The showroom serves as a living presentation of the
firm’s work, while the residences offer a modern, livable interpretation of historic Brooklyn architecture. Beyond the physical
transformation, this investment provided invaluable insight into the realities of large-scale renovation—deepening an understanding of
time, budget, construction demands, and the importance of thoughtful decision-making at every stage. The result is a project that not
only reflects design excellence, but also embodies the experience and perspective that inform every client collaboration moving
forward.
